Chinchpoklicha Chintamani begins 2026 arrival procession in Parel
Thousands of devotees gathered in Parel as the 24-foot Chinchpoklicha Chintamani idol began its ceremonial journey ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.
The Ganpati idol left the Parel Central Railway Workshop on August 29 as crowds lined the route, chanted “Ganpati Bappa Morya” and recorded the procession on mobile phones. The idol belongs to the Chinchpokli Sarvajanik Utsav Mandal, established in 1920 and one of Mumbai’s best-known public Ganesh organisations.
Police deployed extensive security and monitored crowd movement. The bridge linking Parel and Lalbaug was closed to help the procession pass and to manage the gathering. Authorities asked devotees to follow instructions and co-operate with officers.
The procession provided the first public view of the idol before the 2026 festival. Chinchpoklicha Chintamani traditionally draws large crowds, and major mandals and workshops across Mumbai were completing preparations as Ganesh Chaturthi approached.
This year’s idol uses a Tirupati Balaji-inspired theme. The 24-foot figure will sit on a large singhasan, or throne, combining the special design with the mandal’s traditional presentation. Organisers expect it to be one of Ganeshotsav 2026’s principal attractions.
